EVESHAM’S Regal Cinema is well on the way to reopening and is once again throwing open its doors to the public to allow them a closer look at restoration work.
The cinema on Port Street in Bengeworth is currently the subject of a £2 million regeneration scheme being carried out by developers Lumiere Kinesis.
As major construction work continues within the Grade II listed building, an open day is being held on Sunday, March 27, from 10am-4pm, to allow visitors to see for themselves the progress being made by the team led by restoration programme manager Laurence Wiper.
He said: “The first open day we held was a major success and we hope that this one will follow suit. As well as looking around at the work he have been doing, visitors can also sign up to be a volunteer.
“Volunteers really are integral to the success of this project and the more help we have, the better. Even if it is just small jobs and for a short time it all helps.”
The first part of the Regal which will be opened is the ground floor coffee shop.
The glass frontage will allow plenty of light into the room which is expected to be ready for business in a matter of weeks.
The rest of the cinema will not open until later this year with work on transforming the art deco interior ongoing. The lift shaft was due to be put in place this week and the ceilings have been stripped ready for painting.
There will be plenty of room to relax and get comfortable when watching a film upstairs at the Regal with rows of two seater sofas replacing the old rows of single seats. The cinema has also been given a boost with the London Chinatown Tae Kwon Do becoming its first ‘Business Friend.’ To find out more about supporting the project, visit theregal.ac.
