A MAN threatened to “do a Raoul Moat” and said he knew Osama bin Laden when he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Nigel Cox, aged 50, was arrested on June 4 after police received a call about a man hurling abuse at passers-by outside Tesco in Pershore High Street.

Sarah Stock, prosecuting, said: “When officers tried to find out his home address, Cox was un-cooperative.

He said he would do a Raoul Moat and knew Osama bin Laden.”

At the police station, Cox continued to shout. When police tried to remove a pair of glasses that were hanging on his shirt, they dropped on the floor. As the officer bent down to pick them up, Cox kicked him from behind.

Cox, of Woodleigh, Drakes Broughton, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place and assaulting a constable.

Paul Stanley, defending, said: “He makes stupid comments that have no substance whatsoever.”

For assaulting a constable, Cox was fined £150, ordered to pay £50 compensation and given no separate penalty for being drunk and disorderly. He must also pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
