WHEN I think of goats' milk, I think simply of the alternative to cows' milk, that you may choose to put in your tea, pour on your breakfast, or just drink at your leisure. I never imagined that it could be a very healthy alternative in an every day beauty routine.

Many people are not aware of just how easily goats' milk can be incorporated into their own beauty routine. And no, you don't have pour it straight from the fridge onto your skin to reap the benefits. Goats' milk is available in products such as soaps and bath bombs, to name a few. And the good news is, you don't have to go far for it.

Lisa Tanner is the head of a family run business, itsbaaathtime.com, located in the Littletons, near Evesham, Worcestershire. Lisa keeps her own family goats from which she obtains the milk, which is then turned into soap. She claims that the inspiration for starting her own business was down to three of her daughters, who were suffering from eczema and were intolerant to cows' milk. Lisa, 38, said 'Goats' milk is almost of the same PH as human skin, and milk also contains alpha-hydroxy acids. Alpha-hydroxy acid is well known for softening skin and leaving it rejuvenated for a younger appearance.'

Many will still be a little sceptical about welcoming goats' milk into their showering and bath-time routines; the thought of drinking a glass of milk is not very appealing to me, so the thought of rubbing it onto my skin was even less tempting. However, the products are so prettily packaged and smell good enough to eat (or drink), that it became instantly obvious why so many people today are choosing to use goats' milk soap, bath bombs and melts over the big brand soaps, that often contain harmful chemicals. However, the beautifully smelling Lavender Cream Baaa, for £2.15, left my skin feeling smooth and nourished, a world away from the tight, dry feeling that regular soaps usually leave behind. Whilst this bar contains a sprinkle of Lavender essential oil to provide it with a strong fragrance, the Chunky Goats' Milk Soap, priced at £2.50, is pure and completely without fragrance, consisting only of olive oil, coconut oil and goats' milk. Simple.

Goats' milk is good for those with sensitive skin, and has also been said to help those suffering with disorders such as eczema and psoriasis.

Many other organic companies use milk in their products, including Cleopatra's Milk Bath, a cream made with milk powder and Ylang Ylang, from The Organic Pharmacy for £26.50. The advantages of a natural beauty routine are endless, so treat your skin to a milky baaath and see what it does for you.
