ALMOST £300,000 will be spent on preventing burst pipes in a village on the edge of the Cotswolds.
Severn Trent is investing £292,000 in replacing 2.3km of water mains in Dumbleton.
Contractors Morgan Sindall have already started work on the project, which is expected to take up to 12 weeks.
Road closures will be in place at Winchcombe Road until Wednesday, March 14, at Leyfield Farm until Wednesday, April 4, and at Cullabine Farm between February 13, and March 9.
Clive Ingram, project manager for Severn Trent, said: “Our aim is to ensure we continue to provide customers with a reliable supply of drinking water and keep leaks to a minimum.
We have set ourselves tough targets for cutting leakage over the next few years because we know customers see leaks as a waste and want more to be done to prevent them. Replacing older mains is a less disruptive and more cost-effective way of making planned improvements to our network; far better than reacting to bursts as and when they occur.”
The majority of the work is being done using a method called pipe bursting to minimise disruption and avoid open excavation work. This is where new pipe is fed through the old one. The old pipe then bursts and is left in the ground.
Anyone with concerns about the project and how it might affect them can call Severn Trent’s customer service team on 0800 7834444 for more information.

A burst pipe or failed fitting can occur at any time in a property regardless of how well they are maintained causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
You can protect your property 24/7 by fitting an automatic stopcock from www.autostopcock.co.
uk. The device monitors water flow and will automatically turn of the mains water supply if a flood risk occurs therefore elimitating the cost and upheavel of a major flood situation.
