Have your say on traffic diversion plans

JOURNAL readers are being asked for their views on how to keep traffic moving through Evesham while the Abbey Bridge is closed.

Worcestershire County Council has drawn up two options that will drive traffic to and from the Workman Bridge in a bid to avoid cutting the town off altogether during the 10- week Abbey Bridge closure.

One option is to use Oat Street and temporarily turn Mill Street into a two-way road.

That would involve installing three-way traffic lights at the junctions of Bridge Street and Mill Street, and Mill Street and Mill Bank.

The second option is to temporarily turn the pedestrianised Bridge Street into a one-way road. That would require traffic lights at the junction of Bridge Street and Mill Street.

Whichever option is chosen, extensive signage for motorists will be displayed inside and outside the town.

Other options had been explored but discounted based on complexity and safety.

Public exhibitions will take place at Evesham Town Hall between 4pm and 7pm on Wednesday, February 22, while another is planned for the Riverside Shopping Centre between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, March 3. Council officers will be at both events to answer questions.

Anyone unable to attend either can pick up one of 5,000 brochures and feedback forms that will be distributed across the town while those with internet access can visit worcester shire.gov.uk/abbeybridge and have their say using the online questionnaire.
