COMPETITION for the coveted Brassey Cup for crop production landed Moreton Show Society with a problem. There was a three-way tie on points gained in the various competitions, Ros Allen, chairman of the Farms and Crops, said at the annual prize-giving held at Fosseway Garden Centre, and the issue was decided by awarding the trophy to R & J Baldwyn, of Hidcote Boyce, Chipping Campden, on the basis they had won two championships. “We have never faced this problem before,” Miss Allen said, “but it was a nice situation to be in.” Robert Baldwyn said: “We have had a good year and winning the Brassey Trophy completed it for us.” During the evening a longservice award was presented to David Ferriman who has served the farming industry for 35 years, first working for Mr Pedroni and then Mr White on the Workham Estate at Fifield. Miss Allen said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my first event as the new Farms and Crops chairman. I am delighted that among the winners were many new names and we are hoping that more local famers will take part in the competitions this year. “I would like to thank all the judges, competitors, sponsors Norton Air and all the office team for making the event such a success.” Schedules for the 2012 competitions can be obtained from the show office in March or from moretonshow.co.uk.
