VISITORS to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR) this week can enjoy a ride on a ‘bubble car’.
The railway is running the classic diesel railcar service out of Toddington station until Sunday, travelling to Hailes Abbey then back over the 15- arch Stanway Viaduct to Laverton.
Bubble car is a term coined by railwaymen for the compact singlecoach units – all the windows give good all-round visibility – similar to the bubble cars from the 1960s.
Colin Fewell, commercial director of the GWR, said: “It’s rather like a kind of observation coach with a driving compartment at each end. It has lots of windows and great views down the track through the glass separating the driver from the travellers. Travelling on it is quite an experience.”
Children travel free. Tickets are valid for unlimited round trips. For details visit gwsr.com or call 01242 621405.
