Fresh bid to get us all eating local food
8:30am Tuesday 19th June 2012 in News
EVESHAM businesses have pledged to support a project encouraging the use of Vale produce.
Transition Evesham Vale recently launched its 30:30 initiative to get Vale traders to buy 30 per cent of their goods from suppliers within 30 miles of Evesham.
David Haslam, chairman of the transition group, said: “We are delighted to announce our first six champions for the 30:30 initiative. We believe it’s essential to eat more local food for three reasons – it’s fresher and healthier, it reduces food miles and it supports local growers.”
Four pubs – the Fleece at Bretforton, the Star at Ashton- under-Hill, the Round of Gras at Badsey and the Inn at Childswickham – have got involved in the scheme alongside the Word of Mouth café in Vine Street and Evesham Hotel on Coopers Lane.
Louise Roberts from Word of Mouth said: “We are proud of our association with TEV and this initiative. Using local suppliers has always been important to us.”
TEV, which issued a new edition of its local food directory this year, will celebrate all the Vale has to offer to food lovers at the Local Food Festival on Sunday.
The event is being held in All Saints churchyard from 11am to 4pm. There will be entertainment from the Bretforton Silver Band, morris dancing, and juggling, facepainting and a bouncy castles for younger visitors.
