VISIT: The Queen and Prince Phillip are to visit Worcester
DETAILS of the Queen’s visit to Worcester have now been released ahead of her return to the city next week.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are set to visit next Wednesday as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour.
Thousands are expected to welcome the Queen in what will be her first visit in 10 years.
She and the Duke of Edinburgh will begin their visit with a tour of the Hive before officially opening it with a plaque unveiling.
They will then travel by car along Angel Place, onto Broad Street then along the High Street before arriving for a lunch reception at the Guildhall.
This will be followed by a chance for the royal couple to meet residents on the High Street, where VisitWorcester will be organising two themed displays celebrating Worcester’s heritage.
They will then travel by car along Pump Street, turn right on to Friar Street before turning right onto College Street en route to the cathedral for a concert.
Joining the local community, they will listen to a celebration of the Diamond Jubilee in words and music.
Worcester City Council is urging people not to travel into the city by car and to follow guidance to help ensure an enjoyable and safe experience.
Free park and ride services will run from Perdiswell on the day every 10 minutes from 7am and from Sixways every 20 minutes from 9am.
Car parks in Copenhagen Street and King Street will be closed until about 2.30pm and parking for blue badge holders will be available elsewhere in the city.
The Butts will be closed to traffic during the royal visit but the Cattle Market car park will be open.
By Royal appointment

12.15pm – departs the Hive
12.20pm – arrives at the Guildhall
1.55pm – walkabout

I hope they clean up the puddles of vomit that are to be found around the city centre most mornings.

The rest of the world know that if you want to see the Queen you would be an idiot to rely on Worcesters crappy bus system. For an "enjoyable and safe experience" you need to drive.

In Oxford they have double yellow lines or residents only parking everywhere within a 10 mile radius of the centre. In the few places you are allowed to park they have parking meters that cost about £1.50 for 3 minutes. So in reality they aren't forcing so much as 'coercing' people into using the park and rides.

I'm glad there are so many 'wits' (no, it's not a typo) replying to articles like this one. It cheers me up no end, especially in this crappy weather. To think there are so many upbeat people making light of the various foibles of City life make it more even enjoyable to live here. And this is NOT my home City, by birth. Keep it up, good folk of Worcester!

How do they force people to use park and rides?

Pity no-one has thought yet to pop up to the top of the old Russell and Dorrell building and take down that flag which is in tatters and looks a right mess.
i hope they clean up the whole city i was walking round it on thursday and it looks like a right dump :( ... as for the Hive they need to put the lighting panels back on along the hand rails... they are falling off already ...

Unless you have a ticket and are able to walk a fair distance I would advise you to miss out the Hive and move to the Cathedral. The Hive has a very small area for onlookers and all those spaces are ticket only. You have blue tickets red tickets and the gold ribbon tickets. If you do not have one of those don't waste your time.

I thought it was an urban myth that the Queen thinks everywhere smells like paint....Well I've just returned from town and most of the street furniture on part of her route tomorrow has just been freshly painted.

They are actually shutting the Hive for the WHOLE of Tuesday, and until 2 o'clock Wednesday, and she'll only be there for 30 minutes! She won't be able to choose many books in that short space of time will she?
It re-opens at 2pm the same day

“People who dismiss the unemployed and dependent as ‘parasites’ fail to understand economics and parasitism. A successful parasite is one that is not recognized by its host, one that can make its host work for it without appearing as a burden. Such is the ruling class in a capitalist society.”
..Shame they didn't manage to grab Charles Stewart as he snuck out St.Martin's Gate.
