PR guru is helping raise funds for flood defences

CELEBRITY publicist Max Clifford has stepped forward to support a fund-raising campaign in a Vale village.

The Broadway resident is supporting Councillor Liz Eyre in her campaign to raise the £312,000 local community contribution needed towards a £3 million flood defence scheme.

After the Bunches and Badsey Brook and its tributaries badly flooded in July 2007, the Environment Agency put forward a scheme to create of a new flood storage area upstream of the Cheltenham Road Bridge in Broadway.

To help with the fund-raising, a concert is being held on Saturday, September 22, at the Regal Cinema in Evesham which will feature 1960s Liverpool pop legends The Searchers. Mindreader, psychologist and international entertainer Graham Jolly will also be on the bill along with singer Sam Bailey.

Coun Eyre said: “Max has been absolutely amazing. He has supported me with the concept, getting the acts for me and totally underwriting the costs.

“This should make an excellent contribution to our fund which is steadily growing.

I must also thank Ian and Laurence Wiper of the Regal, which is donating all the costs of the venue for the evening. It is a fantastic venue and ideal for such a concert.”
