Judging for our blooms

EVESHAM was going for gold yesterday as the town underwent the first judging day from the Britain in Bloom panel.

Mayoress Diana Raphael, who organises Evesham’s entry into the competition, said: “We got silver gilt last year and are going for gold this year. With flags and bunting from the Jubilee still up and beautiful tubs, troughs and hanging baskets it is looking very festive.

“We did not understand the full effect participation could have on the town.

“Over the years more and more has been done to show that Evesham really is the Heart of England.

“With some of the most fertile soil in Great Britain we have to make the most of it.”
