Drug-driver was responsible for death of Lara, 17

A MAN has admitted causing the death of a 17-year-old girl in a car crash.

Matthew Norcott, aged 27, of Furlongs Road, Pershore, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Lara Smith by careless driving while unfit through drugs, and causing death while driving without insurance.

He also admitted possession of class A drugs with intent to supply at a hearing at Luton Crown Court on Monday.

Sentencing was adjourned for reports, and he was remanded to reappear at the court in August.

Miss Smith, of Bowbrook Cottages, Peopleton, died when the car Norcott was driving ended up on its roof in a ditch after crashing into the central reservation of the A421 in Bedfordshire at about 7am on Sunday, November 13, last year.

The former Pershore High School pupil was in the car with three other people at the time of the crash. She was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died later the same day.

Miss Smith was praised as the “perfect student” by her former tutor at Worcester College of Technology.

Her funeral was held at Pershore Abbey
