Meeting on meadow bid

A CAMPAIGN group hoping to block plans to build 200 homes on land where the Virgin Mary is once said to have appeared, is holding a meeting this evening.

Members of KEG (Keep Evesham Green) will get together at Raphael’s Restaurant at 8pm to discuss the proposals for homes on the land along Abbey Road, earmarked for development in the updated South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP).

The site has been described by objectors to the plans as “one of Evesham’s last green acres” and is on a patch of land where a vision of the Virgin Mary was reported by a medieval swinesherd named Eof and then by St Egwin, leading him to found Evesham Abbey in about 700AD.

Anyone who is concerned about the proposals to build the 200 homes is invited to attend.

It will be an opportunity to visit the site, debate the plans and come up with questions to ask councillors and planners when the SWDP consultation roadshow arrives in Evesham on Thursday, August 30.

For a full list of dates showing where the SWDP consultation process is taking place, visit swdevelopmentplan.

I am more concerned that another 200 homes plus the ones that are in the current process of erection are turning Evesham into one huge housing estate but with no infro-structure.
