Speeding cars kill three cats in a year

AN Evesham man is calling for something to be done to stop speeding on his road.

Tim Haines, of Common Road, said his family had lost three pet cats due to speeding on the road in the past year.

He said: “The children have been very upset by it. The road is not wide enough for the amount of traffic that comes down it. Nothing has been done to prevent speeding along the road. People come screaming along. I think the limit needs to be reduced to 20mph.”

Worcestershire County Council said it would monitor the situation although there were no immediate plans to reduce the speed limit or put in speed mitigating measures.

Jon Fraser, customer and community manager, said: “If we receive a request regarding speeding from residents, we will look into things and assess the possibilities against a number of options.

A speed survey was carried out along Common Road in January last year which did not indicate a persistent excessive speeding issue.”

The time comes when you realise that having cats isn't a very good idea if the traffic keeps killing them. We've lost 3 to the road, 4 have been hit, no more cats for us. 13 cats between 3 houses in 2 years. We live on the rat run to Long Lartin - a 30/40mph but no-one seems to stick to that!!
