Pies and ales will mix with regatta

EVESHAM is the place to be next weekend when the town hosts a festival devoted to fine food and drink as well as a rescheduled regatta.

Residents and visitors can enjoy a second helping of the Evesham Pie and Ale Festival after the success of last year’s inaugural event.

Meanwhile, the rowing club is holding the Evesham Regatta, postponed in the summer after heavy rainfall made the river Avon unsafe.

The Pie and Ale festival will be held on Saturday, September 15, in Market Square from noon to 8pm.

Food and drink lovers can taste a wide selection of locally-crafted creations using the best in the Vale of Evesham’s ingredients.

Pies for all tastes and a carefully selected collection of ales and ciders supplied by local microbreweries will be on offer to sample and to buy.

There will even be demonstrations on how to make the perfect pie so visitors can try new recipes out at home.

Bands will play live on stage from 4pm, joining other entertainment for the family. From noon to 5pm there will be a Kids Corner including donkey rides, a bouncy castle, Punch and Judy and ice cream.

The Evesham Regatta, was originally scheduled for May but prolonged bad weather meant members of Evesham Rowing Club took the difficult decision to call it off just a few days beforehand.

They will be hoping for sunshine on Saturday, when a bumper crowd is expected to enjoy the regatta after an increase in interest in rowing thanks to Team GB’s spectacular successes in the London Olympics.

Former Evesham Rowing Club members Zac Purchase and Alex Gregory won silver and gold respectively at the London Games and have been invited back to their old club to enjoy the occasion.

The course is 100m upstream with the finish line near Workman Bridge.
