AS a giant heart lit up the Olympic Stadium during Sunday night’s Paralympic closing ceremony, an Evesham man looked on proudly at his creation.

Rob Lewis, of Celebration Fireworks, laid the silver and yellow heart, which lit up as Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed to a packed out stadium. The moment was one of the highlights of the ceremony that also featured such stars as Rihanna and Jay Z.

Mr Lewis said he was very proud his company had been involved in the spectacular occasion. “I supplied them with the firework that made the heart. I laid it all down. I am just so proud of it, that a small company from Evesham managed to supply that.

“The firework comes from China. I found it during a trip out there.

They look like a string of sausages. The one we usually have lasts for a minute but they wanted it for only 15-20 seconds. I went to China and managed to get one that lasted for 22 seconds.

“It arrived last Sunday and I delivered it on the Monday. I spent the whole day in there working alongside the other firework companies involved. I then found a seat in the stadium and enjoyed the ceremony. It was just awesome. I will never forget it.”
