WHY is a cow and her calf using an elevator?

David Lainchbury of Burford, a member of the family firm which manufactured the equipment, would like to know the answer.

Written on the back of the original picture is “possibly taken by Keith Durn, Tewkesbury, September 1958.”

Mr Durn ran a photography business in Church Street, Tewkesbury, for many years.

Mr Lainchbury said: “The company Lainchbury & Sons Ltd exhibited for many years at the Three Counties Show and most probably the original picture was given to Ernest Lainchbury on the show stand.

“I would like to learn why the cow and her calf are having to use the elevator to descend from the barn loft and if the operation was successful.

“Hopefully the farmer’s sons or daughters or perhaps a farm worker are still resident in the Tewkesbury area and an e-mail or phone call would be most encouraging in my venture to learn more about this elevator use,” he said.
