IT was another successful weekend for the annual Welland Steam and Country Rally, despite heavy rain forcing its early closure yesterday.
Hundreds of exhibitors and more than 20,000 enthusiasts of all ages flocked to Woodside Farm, between Upton and Malvern, for three days of all things steam.
The show, which usually takes place in July but was postponed because of bad weather, experienced a record attendance for a Saturday and plans are already in place for the 49th event next year, which is due to be held on July 26, 27 and 28.
Pete Evans, safety and security officer, said the show was as popular as ever.
He said: “It’s been absolutely fantastic. We had a record gate on Saturday. Sunday was a washout but we also had a good crowd on Friday. I think it’s so popular because it’s still done totally by volunteers and members of the Ross-on-Wye Steam Engine Society. It has a fantastic atmosphere and we’re recognised as one of the best in the country for the vintage preservation movement. The whole show had quality exhibits, but I think Saturday night’s performance by The Wurzels was the peak.” For more information, visit wellandsteamrally. co.uk.
