A TRULY terrifying event is being planned for Worcester this Halloween.

The living dead have crept from their crypts and will be walking the city’s streets from Sunday to Wednesday, October 28-31. Those who choose to take on the ‘Evil Rising’ challenge will have to fight for their survival.

The event takes its inspiration from the legend of an evil being cast into hell by a man called ‘The Seeker’ hundreds of years ago. Now, organisers say, this foul fiend has returned to the earthly plane – bringing with it legions of the undead.

During the event later this month, zombies, ghouls and other creepy creatures will be dotted along a three-and-a-half mile route that participants will have to negotiate through the city.

Evil Rising’s creative director Scott Jenkins came up with the idea for the event after visiting the London Dungeons with his family.

His plans have come to fruition with the help of operations director James Newman and technical director Dan Jakeman.

Mr Jenkins, of Worcester, has recently started a creative design agency. He said he surprised himself by coming up with such a scary concept as he is a “wuss” when it comes to horror films.

He said: “I loved the whole apprehension of what’s going to jump out at you; what’s waiting around the corner.

“There’s a whole scare industry but 99 per cent of them are people being chased by zombies. We just took it a step further, it’s not just zombies, not just blood and gore.

“There’s really good actors following a really good story line. Providing everyone gets into it, it will feel like they’re living it.”

He said the event had been “very, very stressful” to plan but has been made easier thanks to an “excellent” team and willing volunteers.

Tickets cost £15 with £1 going to charity.

Evil Rising has also joined the Worcester Zombiewalk in raising money for the ME Association.

People who have signed up to take part in the event will receive an e-mail on October 20, with their ‘survivors pack’ and details of the route.
