MORE than 150 cyclists used pedal power to get up close and personal with the glorious autumnal colours of the Worcestershire countryside.

The Bredon Hill Bikeaway, organised by the Pershore division of St John Ambulance and supported by Wychavon District Council, set off from its new location at Pershore College on Sunday.

Divisional vice-president and regular contributor to the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow Henry Sandon got the cyclists under way on three routes catering for all ages and capabilities, ranging from eight to 49 miles.

Angela Tidmarsh, Pershore division secretary, said: “We were delighted with the response we had for this annual event.

“Grateful thanks to everyone who took part and also to the college for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities and Wychavon District Council for their continuing support.

“Almost 6,000 miles were cycled around three Olympic-styled routes and even though the weather could have been kinder, everyone was in high spirits and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event.

“We are hopeful that we have raised about £1,000 for divisional funds and this money will be spent pursuing our goal of serving the local community.”
