A NEW supermarket for residents of Pinvin and Pershore has moved a step closer after a detailed planning application was submitted to Wychavon District Council.

The supermarket giant has unveiled plans for a new multi-million pound supermarket off Abbey View Road in Pinvin, to add to its two new stores in Worcester in the last year.

The discount food retailer has claimed that the new supermarket would create around 40 jobs.

There is already planning permission for a petrol filling station at the site.

But Aldi has now submitted an alternative vision with a new, high-quality food store and associated landscaping.

In May, Aldi held a public exhibition attended by more than 300 local residents.

The majority, 76 per cent, of pre-application feedback supported the plans.

Respondents noted that Pinvin and Pershore needed additional competition while a new store would save time for those who currently travel to Evesham to complete their shopping.

A spokesperson for Aldi said: “We are delighted to now submit a full planning application to Wychavon District Council following high levels of support from the local community.

“If approved, the new store would be a multi-million-pound boost to the local area, improve local shopping choice, and create around 40 jobs.

“Given that the land already has existing planning permission, we believe the site is perfectly located to provide residents of Pinvin, Pershore and Wyre Piddle with low-priced, quality products, whilst not detracting from the local village centres.”

Wychavon District Council will determine the application, with a decision expected to be made within months.
