FORTIS Living, Worcestershire's largest social housing provider, is encouraging volunteers to come forward to help keep a community garden in top condition.

Droitwich residents are needed to get involved in the Winslow Avenue garden space.

The garden, which opened in the summer of 2014, is currently cared for by a number of volunteers. They meet on Thursday mornings between 10am and noon - although volunteers can turn up at any time and decide what they would like to do.

General gardening jobs include weeding, planting and watering. The garden provides much needed produce to local foodbanks, some produce however is not suitable – such as soft fruits – and volunteers can keep these items that they grow.

Liz Pettican, a volunteer at the Droitwich garden and Fortis Living tenant, said: “I started volunteering at the garden when it opened and have been going at least once a week ever since.

"Gardening is my passion and I love being outside and doing something worthwhile."

Chris Colley, community officer at Fortis Living, added: “Community gardens provide a wonderful environment for people to come together. We would like to encourage volunteers to come forward."
