AS the meeting was close to Easter it was more of a social meeting with free tea coffee and hot cross buns. The speaker was Liz Scott, she gave a short talk on the work of “Silver Line”, which is a charity set up by Esther Rantzen to help people with loneliness. They provide a round the clock response to people who are lonely either from bereavement or any other reason. The initial call is made and the person is then bonded with a responder who will always have a chat whatever the time of day or night. It is aimed specifically at elderly people. Her purpose was to notify people of the facility and also to try to recruit new responders. The Chairman reminded us that the AGM was on the 28 June and he said it would be nice to see some new members volunteering for the committee. We were also reminded that subscriptions were due at the end of May. The visit to the Guide Dog Breeding centre is to be in August. The next meeting will be at Peopleton Village Hall on 24 May and the speaker will be Paul Harding. He will give a talk entitled “Discover History”. Visitors and new members are very welcome.
