OUR display ‘60 Plants for 60 Years’ at RHS Chelsea Flower Show was awarded a Silver-Gilt Medal. This was very exciting for all concerned, as was the Group’s inclusion in the BBC coverage from the show on the Thursday evening. Some Chelsea plants will be included in our annual Plant Sale on Saturday, 10th June, 2-4pm at Peopleton Village Hall, WR10 2EG. Entry is free as is plant advice. Plant supports and refreshments will also be available.

Jack Willgoss of Wildegoose Nursery in Shropshire was our May speaker. His very entertaining talk ‘The Wonderful World of Perennial Violas’ included a history of the nursery, started in August 2011 with the acquisition of the Bouts viola collection from Mr & Mrs Roberts of Inkberrow. A derelict but historically important greenhouse at the nursery has been fully restored with help from English Heritage. 12,000 small pieces of glass were needed just to repair the central curved area. Jack gave great advice on the growing and propagation of violas, and concluded with a list of his top 20 favourite varieties, some of which he had brought with him.
