MEMBERS together with their wives, partners and guests thoroughly enjoyed the occasion of our Summer Lunch at the Kings Court Hotel, Alcester on Thursday 22 June.

Despite it being during the hottest period of the year, fortunately the day turned out to be relatively cooler and cloudier. This meant that the ladies who had turned out in their finery and the chaps in jackets and ties were not discomforted by the heat and humidity that we had experienced in the preceding week.

Had he been there, Bill Underwood would have been delighted to see that with the exception of the usual miscreant, all the gentlemen were properly dressed.

We have been to this hotel on a number of occasions in the past and as ever the food was well presented and the staff were courteous, professional and very helpful.

It was also nice for all of us to be able to meet up and have a drink before lunch and after the meal to be able to circulate and talk to others without feeling that we were being rushed out.

George Bourne and Grenville Burrows declared the event a resounding success and we all thanked Clive Allen for ensuring everything ran to plan.

Our speaker on 6 July will be Ron Gallivan who will describe the life and death of HMS Hood, the last battlecruiser built for the Royal Navy which exploded and sank in May 1941 after being hit by German shells.

We meet every Thursday at 10am at the Evesham Rowing Club's boathouse. Our website is at www.eveshamprobus.co.uk.
