ON 18 October, President George Bourne and members agreed that our visit to Hook Norton Brewery had been a resounding success.

George then welcomed our guest speaker, David Lees of Cheltenham, who spoke with authority about peace keeping in the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.

David described the background to Cyprus and its troubles with the help of very professional photos and images. He spoke about the critically important United Nations peace-keeping role and the people he had met whilst there as an Army officer.

In addition to the historical detail, David showed us images of the beach where Aphrodite is assumed to have materialised and explained that Cyprus is about half the size of Wales.

David Beckley congratulated our speaker for a thoroughly informative explanation of the issues that face those in Cyprus. We applauded David warmly.

Fellow member Andy Richardson will be confessing his life story at our meeting on 26 October. Then on 2 November we shall hear about the Silent Listener from David Thorp and on 9 November, David Lees’ wife, Marsha, will describe her life in Russia before and after Perestroika.
