ON January 25, Robert Burns's birthday, Bob Young, our Scottish representative, gave us a potted biography of the poet and a bilingual rendering of Tam o' Shanter. We then proceeded to the main item, a presentation by John Hincks,"Let's go to the Music Hall." He traced the origins from the entertainment laid on in the pubs of the cities which grew up during the Industrial Revolution to the traditional music halls as recreated on TV by Leonard Sachs in the 30 year series, "The Good Old Days", minus the unruly conduct of the original audiences. Many famous stars were seen in film clips, also wartime entertainers and comedians from the 1950s and 1960s. It was a most enjoyable show, bringing back many memories.

Our next meeting will be exraterrestrial but still at the Boathouse, and on February 8 we shall discover why the speaker goes topless around Stratford.

As always, full details can be found on our website www.probusevesham.co.uk.
