Lenches WI ladies left our June Meeting with a greater knowledge of deafness. Our speaker, John Stonier, was born profoundly deaf and was educated at a special boarding school for deaf children. He spoke about how to react to deaf people including catching their attention, the importance of sign language and also lip reading. We learnt some basic sign language from Good Morning, Good Night, and other simple phrases. There is a high proportion of deafness, particularly amongst our ageing population. After many questions, John was thanked by Gill Proops, our President.

Details were given about our forthcoming afternoon to the Races in Worcester, a visit to Evesham Vale Growers in Blackminster in August and information on forthcoming bursaries for Denman College.

The Lenches WI welcome new members and visitors – the third Monday in each month.
