SOMEBODY was sat on our Shoulders on Sunday, November 20, and gave us some pretty good weather for the Bengeworth Remembrance Parade and Service. This is the second Remembrance Service held in Evesham, the first being held on Remembrance Sunday and paid for by the Town Council and this year was a great tribute to the Council for a good attendance and arrangements for the Service and the Parade, aided by members of The Royal British Legion with the Parade Routines and Service.

The Parade was led as usual by Roy Bates ex-Royal Airforce Police, This all started off by the Parade down to the War Memorial in the Park, with Wreaths being Laid by various Organisations including the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Scouts and Brownies as an act of Remembrance to those of both World Wars who died to give us the freedom we enjoy today. The following Sunday 20th November was basically a repeat of the previous Sunday without the Wreath Laying Ceremony. Fourteen Standards and Youth Group Flags were Paraded and about 10 veterans and 2 Serving Members of the Royal Navy and Royal Military Police. Both were a very welcome addition to the small number of Veterans in attendance. The Sea Cadets were represented by 65 Cadets plus Adult Cadets and the Army Cadets were also in attendance.

Alan Booth, the Evesham Royal British Legion Branch Chairman thanked all of these Groups for their attendance before they were dismissed after arriving at the Bengeworth Sports & Social Club in Coronation Street. It was then All Hands On Deck for the excellent refreshments provided by the Management of the Club.

During this relaxing period, Alan Booth called attention to the excellent work carried out by Sue Sollis in running the Charity in Remembrance of Tracy Sollis, her daughter who sadly died at a young age of Cancer and made a donation of £100 to the Charity on behalf of the Legion. He continued by expressing the thanks of the Legion, also, for her willingness to support the Legion at various events of Remembrance by Playing the Last Post and Reveille at many functions over many years. He then Presented her with a Certificate as a record of her willing services to The Royal British Legion over many years.
