ECKINGTON WI’s March meeting saw lots of crafts and chatting between our members. On the theme of Green Hearts and Pancakes, we knitted, painted and sewed green hearts to increase awareness of climate change. The NFWI is a founding member of The Climate Coalition (TCC), a group of over 100 organisations and over 15 million people working for action on climate change. One of the TCC core campaigns is focussed around Valentine's Day, and is called 'For the Love Of….' This campaign aims to show people that climate change is affecting the things in their life that they love, such as chocolate, bees, and beaches, and it asks people to wear and share green hearts to show that they would like to see action on climate change. So whilst not quite Valentine’s Day, we decided to participate by doing our green hearts in our March meeting. Once completed, they will either be kept at home to personally display or form part of our eventual overall display for ‘For the love of …’. And after all that activity, refreshments were served with pancakes replacing our usual biscuits – a tasty change!

Onto business and members were reminded of upcoming events, such as our Lunch Club at the Angel Inn, Coffee and Chat at the Bell, our last competitive skittles as well as other opportunities provided by County and other WIs.

Our next meeting is ‘Homeopathy’ with Sheila Oxspring on Wednesday 5 April at Eckington Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Ladies, visitors are welcome £4 including refreshments. For more information, follow us on Facebook or visit www.eckingtonwi.weebly.com.
