OUR July meeting was a rapid romp through all things 60’s led by our speaker for the evening Ray Sturdy.

He showed us slides of fashions, pop groups, events and celebrities of the era, all of which were familiar to the majority of us.

He also touched on more serious events, such as the political intrigue and scandals of the period and the effect on many of the Cuban missile crisis and the assassination of President Kennedy. Most of us could remember just what we were doing when we heard the news of the latter. The competition for the evening Anything with 60 on it was won by Pam Cole, with Benita Findlay second and Margaret Powell third.

In August, we hold a supper for members and their husbands and friends.

Unfortunately, unreliable weather forced us indoors at the village hall, rather than outdoors in a member’s garden, but we had an enjoyable evening.

All the members of the committee worked hard to contribute to the success of the evening.

Perhaps in 2014 the weather will be more cooperative.

A vote of thanks on behalf the members and their guests was given by Marion Brighton.

The date of next meeting is September 10, at 7.30pm in Littletons Village Hall.

Speaker Jo Shadbotts from Hillers will talk about ways of cooking with more unusual fruit and vegetables.

This will be an open meeting.

The competition is a Harvest Festival arrangement in a box or basket.
