FOLLOWING the singing of Jerusalem, President June Lloyd welcomed members and guests to our March meeting. She then advised us of the sad news that one of our members, Thelma Lightwood, had died. Thelma had been with Littletons WI for many years and had been an active member for many of those years.

June dealt with various business matters and mentioned the knitting of sensory bands by members. These are to be forwarded to a centre for patients with Alzheimers in the near future. The bands were on display on the information table together with two books detailing the history of the Littletons in 1985 and the clipboards containing various events members were invited to take part in during the coming months. A short discussion was held on the proposed altering of our August Meeting, which is usually a Garden Party/American Supper to a Saturday afternoon, when it hoped the weather will be warmer than an evening meeting and members will vote on this at our next meeting. Our Secretary, Margaret Dalton, read out a letter from Charlie Homer, our speaker for February’s meeting, thanking us for inviting him to spend Valentine’s evening with us! A vote was taken on the way in which we wished to receive WI News and it was unanimously agreed by those members present to leave things as they are. Margaret Potter detailed the entries for the Competition Schedule for the Annual Council Meeting which is due to take place in October. An appeal was made for cakes and preserves for sale at Littletons Spring Craft Fayre on Saturday, April 29 at Littletons Village Hall from 12noon-4pm.

June then introduced our speaker for the evening, Adrian James, whose talk was entitled “Four Gardens and a Festival”. His slide show and talk detailed four gardens, one for each season, and which were well known to most of us. The competition was “A Photo of any of the Four Seasons” and this was won by Betty Jackson.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, April 11 at 7pm when Doreen Jeeves will talk to us on the work done by Associated Countrywomen of the World. Guests and new members are welcome. For further information contact June Lloyd on 01386 830844. See also www.littletonswi.moonfruit.com
