  • "We will have to agree to disagree on this matter, during the times that we are able to grow our own produce importing should not be anywhere near as high as it is.

As for the industries you think will have to cut jobs, well where the veg is grown will have no impact on these, surely distribution, superma
rkets and packaging would still remain the same no matter where the veg is grown?"

Award for sweet potato grower

EVESHAM-based Scott Farms International has been crowned Importer of the Year in the Refresh Awards 2012.

The UK’s leading sweet potato grower and importer accepted the award after it was shortlisted along with three other companies.

The Re-fresh Awards recognises the outstanding achievers of the last 12 months in the fresh produce industry.

“We are extremely proud to have won the Importer of the Year category at this year’s Refresh Awards,” said Stan Smith, CEO of Scott Farms International on Vale Park, Evesham.

“The category was very competitive and to have won is a recognition of our commitment to the industry as a whole and our passion for sweet potatoes.

Our aim is to increase the nation’s appetite for the product and for Scott Farms sweet potatoes to be asked for by name.”

Celebrity chef James Martin presented the awards in front of 500 industry guests at the gala dinner at the InterContinental London Park Lane, the highlight of the fresh produce industry’s annual calendar and following the Re-fresh conference and expo.

Scott Farms International was selected by an independent judging panel of the industry’s peers on the executive committee of the Fresh Produce Consortium.

Scott Farms is the importer of the product and is also the seller- distributor of sweet potatoes through the storage and temperature controlled distribution hub.
