EVESHAM will be awash with the flying flags of St George on Monday as the town celebrates the saints day with a big British bash.

The Best of British Evening has been organised by Evesham Mayor, Cllr Jo Sandalls and is taking place at The Public Hall at 7.30pm, with all proceeds going towards the Mayor's charities.

Cllr Sandalls came up with the idea to fly the flag' for St George's Day because she believed that not enough was done in this country to celebrate the occasion.

The evening will be a celebration of all things English, with a brass band playing traditional music with added light entertainment and fish and chip supper, ending with a Last Night of the Proms style performance with a rendition of Land of Hope and Glory.

Cllr Sandalls said: "When I became Mayor I decided that this year we would celebrate St George's Day in style. As well as the Celebration of St George we will be holding a church service on the following Sunday which has been arranged by the scouting movement.

"I have invited the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Michael Brinton to take the salute and a procession will take place from the Railway Station to All Saints Church."
