A PERSHORE man has been incensed by what he claims is cost cutting by the council after a rubbish truck leaked rubbish on its rounds around the town.

Terry Richardson, from Woodwood Road, Pershore, couldn't believe his eyes when he saw that the District Council's refuse collection vehicle was collecting the rubbish in one end only for it to fall out the other.

He said: "It was leaking rubbish, leaving piles of it around Pershore. It was everywhere, from where we live all the way up to Cherry Orchard.

"I have to spoken to client services at Wychavon District Council about it and they said they have reported it, but nothing has happened.

"This is the seventh week I've been waiting for a reply though, I even reported what was going on for four weeks in a row at one point.

"I just feel enough is enough now, I find it unacceptable. The council fine people for having their bins too full with rubbish yet they are dumping it on the floor and getting away with it.

"I pay a lot of money in council tax, and if they're not spending that money on fixing things like this truck, what are they spending it on?!"

Council officers have said they are taking Mr Richardson's claims seriously and that an inspector had been out to see the problem for themselves.

Mark Edwards, waste management officer at Wychavon District Council, said: "We were contacted by Mr Richardson concerning a problem with refuse collection and one of our inspectors visited the area.

"Our contractors, FOCSA, have cleared the spilt refuse and we have asked them to look into the cause of the problem."
