A VALE heritage trust was the toast of environmentalists this week when it was hailed as an outstanding example of "thinking globally and acting locally".
The former Director of Friends of the Earth, Sir Jonathon Porritt, was speaking as he presented awards to volunteers Colin Grove and Sylvia Grimmett.
He was visiting the headquarters of Cleeve Prior Heritage Trust at Field Barn to honour the charity's achivements over the past 11 years.
Sir Jonathon, who is now chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission and co-director of the Prince of Wales's Business and Environment Programme, has supported the Trust since it was first established in 1997.
The Trust, he said, was "an example of what can be achieved in even a small village by a group of committed people who care about their local environment."
Field Barn is a listed 18th-Century stone barn fitted with green' technologies such as photovoltaic panels, ground-source heating, breathing walls, a composting toilet and wood-burner.

From this base, the Trust's team of volunteers look after around 28 acres of land around the parish including the Community Orchard, the Millennium Green, the Parish Sanctuary and Perry Orchard, Earls Lane Orchard and the site of Cleeve Mill.
Don Warren, chairman of the Heritage Trust, said: "We were delighted and honoured to welcome Jonathon Porritt to Cleeve Prior.
"We are most grateful for his continuing support for our work and for his kind words."
