Sea cadets' awards evening

EVESHAM Sea Cadets and their executive officer PO (SCC) Keith Field welcomed Major Ian Baldry from the Royal Mercian regiment and Worcestershire's county co-ordinator for Help the Heroes, as their guest of honour for their awards evening.

Help for Heroes is a new charity organisation formed to help those who have been wounded in Britain's current conflicts, including those in Afghanistan and Iraq and is raising money for a Tri-service Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court.

During the evening Major Baldry inspected his guard of honour and inspected the well turned out ships company during the colours routine before giving a presentation and a question and answer session on the good charity work of Help for Heroes.

Evesham Sea cadets are now supporting the charity work with the cadets developing fund-raising ideas..

At the end of the evening Major Baldry made presentations to the cadets for their recent hard work and advancements made, including Rate Advancement, Good Conduct Badges, Meteorology, Offshore Sailing, Expedition Training and Piping.

Able Cadet Josh Colebeck, the Guard Commander for the evening, picked up three awards after just returning from the tallship the TS Royalist and the Mayor of Evesham's Cadet was awarded to the Parade Commander for the evening, Leading cadet Rupert Owen for his outstanding achievements and leadership qualities.

Evesham Sea Cadets meet in Shinehall Lane, South Littleton on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7pm and the unit is currently looking for adult volunteers to assist with the current strength of 59 cadets, or to serve on the committee, which meets once a month.
