MEMBERS of a Pershore club are celebrating a new lease of life after two volunteers stepped in to save it from closing.
The future of the Pershore Evergreen Club was in danger with a new secretary and treasurer needed in order for the group to survive and following an appeal in the Evesham Journal the roles have now been filled and the future is looking far more rosy.
Peter Shaw had been secretary of the club for the past 15 years and also held the position of treasurer up until the recent developments.
Maureen Gumbrell has now taken over as secretary and Sandra Berryman has taken up the responsibility of being treasurer.
Mr Shaw said: "When we made the request for new volunteers we were on the verge of closing down as we could not fill the secretary job, which is a very important role in driving operations at the club.
"Had we not been able to find a replacement we would have had to close down. It is good to have some new faces in the roles as we were in need of fresh ideas. I will remain with the club and offer guidance where I can."
Pershore Evergreen Club is a social club for elderly people and is supported by the WRVS (Womens Royal Voluntary Service). Its members meet once a month on the first Thursday of the month.
The 40 members age from around 70 to the oldest at 90 and meetings noramally involve guest speakers, entertainment, raffles and refreshments.
Mr Shaw added: "This is a fun, social club where people can go for a bit of a break and we would be interested in attracting one or two new members."
