How can they sleep soundly at night?

9:48am Thursday 6th March 2008

How can the Worcestershire County Councillors sleep soundly in their beds at night knowing that they have once again taken a unilateral decision that in effect will get rid of night care staff at Ferry View a very sheltered housing complex in Evesham.

How can they look the resident of sheltered housing throughout the county in the eye, and say we are a caring council, who has a strategy that will in leave venerable senior citizens alone at night, knowing that there is no one in immediate vicinity they are able to call on in an emergency.

We have frightened residents throughout the county who have pleaded with officials not to get rid of night staff, but it would appear that our caring councillors are oblivious to the cries of panic from the residents of sheltered housing.

How can our elected representatives vote to give themselves a substantial pay increase, when the most vulnerable members of our community, are looked at totally from an economic point of view of how much does it cost?

Evesham & District Pensioners Association on the April, 8, 2008 is hosting a Worcestershire Pensioner Convention conference in the Evesham Town Hall and as Secretariat of the WPC, I personally challenge any councillor to speak at this conference and justify the council's strategic aims.

Senior Citizens like myself who are fortunate not to be a resident in sheltered housing and not directly involved in this present nightmare, state unconditionally to the residents of Worcestershire's sheltered housing, you are not alone and where possible attend this conference and anyone like myself who are still lucky to live at home also attend this conference as this could effect you in the not to distant future.

FRED KALER, Secretariat, Worcestershire Pensioners Convention.
