Clear view of flooding

As a resident of Badsey I viewed the risen waters again recently and spoke to several residents yet again affected by high water.

The Journal, dated Thursday, March 20 contained four letters regarding the floods. Sunday, March 16 saw the flood waters rise again.

People who were woken by the sound of rising water at 6am, people who had to move livestock, people yet again concerned about floodwater. Even the tale of a fisherman who used to ledger fish in the brook years ago when the brook was much deeper, and far less likely to flood.

When Badsey brook was flooded in July 2007 the railings on the Bretforton road were eventually pushed down at around 11.30pm, the bridge was not capable of letting the water underneath due mainly to rubbish. Residents were up watching the water rise, then it went down very quickly as the railings released a substantial amount of water clearing the flooded road.

Local farmers have been clearing ditches on their land and roadside ditches have also been dug out.

This is all good but like Sheila Cook (letter Journal, March 20) I am now waiting for the brooks and rivers to be dredged of the silt and debris left after the floods.

I feel everyone accepts there is a cost for dredging, but surely this can not be as high as the insurance costs have been over the last nine months.

Please can I ask the same as other residents, clear the river beds and give the water chance to drain away and give us chance to rest easier.

LIN BUCKNALL, Seward Road, Badsey.
