HOW nice to read that the crime rate is falling in the North Cotswolds (Journal March 20).
Try telling that to the owners of the buses and the school in Chipping Norton that were recently vandalised (also reported in the Journal same issue). Why were the yobs that caused the damage only given a final warning'? I presume the word final' means that they have received previous warnings? I presume this means that if some teenage twerp smashes up my car for a laugh one night, I will have to pay for the damage and he will just get a warning? When is the legal system in this country going to get the message that criminals should actually be punished? What is the use of giving the idiots who take pleasure in wrecking other people's property final warnings'? The only thing people understand is swift retribution. Make them sweep the streets or dig old people's gardens. Better still: lock them up. Oh, but we can't do that, can we? The prisons are all full of foreign prisoners that we are not allowed to send home.
