Now the High Street work has finished, was it all worth it?

It would appear that here in Pershore we are finally free from roadworks.

Well I would like to say it was because all the workmen had gone. However that is not quite yet true, they are still ironing out the kinks. So I would like to say it was because the delivery lorries were using the new loading bays, however this morning I observed a lorry parked across the road from the brand new loading bay; after all who would want to carry all their stock across the main road. Failing that I would like to say it was because I was enjoying the peace and tranquillity promised by the highways department when they started this fiasco. Sadly yet again I am wrong. As a resident of the High Street, I have noticed an immense drop in lorries since the July 2007 floods. I have also noticed a general drop off in traffic. Now the flood damage is repaired and the works are finished however I am sorry to state that almost immediately the numbers of lorries has risen. I know this as in a main street fronting house every time a lorry goes past, all the light is blocked from the small cottage windows and they interfere with the TV signal. I understand the road enhancement was a necessary evil to protect our citizens, to reduce traffic and slow it down.

In my humble opinion the result has been the opposite. Traffic is now able to move through at speed sometimes dangerous. Drivers are choosing not to use the new unloading areas. Shame the Highways department have wasted several hundred thousand pounds not to mention the loss of trade at an incredibly critical point just after the flood closure had reopened. The result.... We have a nice new pavement with some obtrusive bollards that get in the way. Was it worth it?...
