100 Years Ago August 10, 1907 Beautiful weather favoured the sale of work and garden fete which was held in the grounds of the Manor House, Cleeve Prior, on Saturday afternoon in aid of the fund for the restoration of the church, and there was an excellent attendance. The sale was opened at three o'clock by Lady Barbara Yeatman-Biggs, wife of the Bishop of the Diocese, and in calling upon her to declare the sale open the Vicar (Rev A C Style) in a short speech said he was pleased to see so many assembled there that afternoon to welcome Lady Barbara, who had so kindly come all the way from Hartlebury Castle to open the sale, and he was sure they all appreciated her kindness. They hoped that day to realise the amount of £90, which was still required to clear them from debt.

75 Years Ago August 6, 1932 Although rain generally proved the spoilsport for August Bank Holiday attractions in the Vale of Evesham, there was a fair number of visitors to the town during the weekend, but not nearly so many as would have come had the weather been more congenial. After a fine day on Saturday, the conditions broke up for Sunday and Monday when holiday sports were marred by intermittent rain storms which proved at times torrential. On Saturday the GWR brought in between 1,200 and 1,500 tourists, while on Monday five special trains conveyed over 2,000 holiday makers in. The LMS line was responsible for bringing 1,700 trippers in on Monday as well.

50 Years Ago August 9, 1957 Storms of unusual violence broke over the Vale of Evesham on Monday evening. Evesham Horse Show was interrupted. electricity supply lines, telephones and television sets were put out of action and at Willersey lightning struck the parish church, exploding two power plugs and scattering plaster about the chancel and south transcept. A total of 1.04 inches of rain was recorded at the premises of Messrs Ross Bros, Bengeworth, and 0.93 of an inch by Mr Norrie Field, of East Terrace, Evesham. The downpours were accompanied by incessant lightning. Most of Badsey was without electricity for some hours, while an area of Evesham was in darkness for some time and for some hours afterwards the supply was at half strength.
