100 Years Ago August 24, 1907 AS we expected the inhabitants of Evesham and the district and a large number of people living at a distance have most readily and generously responded to our appeal for a thousand shillings for the purchase of a Challenge Vase to commemorate the victories of the Evesham Junior Four at Midland Regattas this season, and we beg to thank them on our own behalf, and also on behalf of the Rowing Club for enabling us so quickly to hand over the entire amount to the treasurer of the club. The alacrity with which the opportunity was seized upon testifies to the fact that the subscribers are always ready to support sport and we trust that the example of the crew, whose record feat is to be celebrated, will influence their fellow members to emulate their example.

75 Years Ago August 20, 1932 WHILE the sun shone with shameless brilliance on Saturday afternoon, 22 young men divided themselves after the manner of footballers and kicked and ran and ran and kicked until it appeared they might be reduced to mere pools of perspiration before their keeper blew full-time. The young men were aspirants or places in the coming season's Evesham Town Combination side, indulging in what is officially termed a practice match, but which had all the appearances of a melee in a Turkish bath. The Crown Meadow was fringed with men and women who lounged in the grass attired in the flimsiest of summer attire, while they perspired in sympathy with the poor fellows who were literally "sweating" on getting a place with the "Robins."

50 Years Ago August 23, 1957 OFFENHAM hopes of a footbridge over the Avon received little encouragement as a result of the meeting held on the site when the County Council representatives met representatives of the Offenham Parish Council, Evesham Rural District Council and the South Western Area Gas Board. The chairman of the Parish Council (Mr. Reg Careless) reported to a meeting of the council on Wednesday that the County Council did not appear very enthusiastic. As a result of the meeting, the County Council agreed to contribute £2,000, provided that the Gas Board would increase their contribution to £2,000, and the Parish Council would contribute £1,000..Mr. G.L. Andrews said it had been difficult to convince county councillors of any real need for the bridge and regretted that the village as a whole had not shown more positive enthusiasm.
