100 Years Ago October 26, 1907 NO authentic information has been so far afforded the public of Evesham as to the date of the marriage of Princess Louise of Orleans and Prince Charles of Bourbon, beyond the fact that it will take place sometime between the 10th and 18th of next month. Meanwhile, the work of preparing Wood Norton for this function is being pushed forward with great rapidity. A temporary chapel, with an entrance from the mansion, is being built on the east side of the house, and a pavilion on the south side. These buildings are of wood, and already the structures themselves are practically finished, a body of men having been working upon them day and night for some time past. The work of decoration is being carried out by a small army of Frenchmen.

75 Years Ago October 22, 1932 THE vexed question as to whether or not a portion of the land near the Bridge Street entrance to the Abbey Park was to be disposed of was again debated at a meeting of the Evesham Town Council on Wednesday evening, and the matter will be carried a step further at the next meeting of the general purposes committee when the surveyor will present plans showing a portion of the site set aside for sale as business premises. Other matters of importance discussed at the meeting were the provision of public lavatory accommodation in Bengeworth and the disposal in small allotments of the land adjoining the new council houses in Rynal Place.

50 Years Ago October 25, 1957 EVESHAM RDC is to mark time' on its house building programme following the rise in the bank rate and the consequent increase in borrowing rates. At Monday's meeting, the council heard from its housing committee that, in view of the increases in the Public Works Loans Board borrowing rate, the committee gave further consideration to their current housing programme and to a statement of the present position of various schemes throughout the district. The committee resolved that, of the remainder, only the 12 houses scheduled for Honeybourne be continued to the structional stage. while the preparation of schemes for Wickhamford (18), South Littleton (4), Harvington (6), Bretforton (6), Broadway (16), Kemerton (4), Offenham (12) and Inkberrow (6) be continued as far as the taking off of quantities.
