100 Years Ago November 2, 1907 AT a special meeting held on Tuesday afternoon, the Evesham Town Council passed a resolution authorising an application to the Local Government Board for sanction to borrow a sum not exceeding £8,000 for the alteration and improvement of the public library and institute buildings. This is an amount considerably in excess of what the public generally understood what would be required and it seems to be great deal of money to spend upon an alteration of the present buildings. However, the council have had all of the facts of the case before them and should be in a better position to judge of the matter than the man in the street. Only one vote was cast against the resolution, that of Councillor Hooper, who said he would rather vote for a new town hall and library altogether.

75 years Ago October 19, 1932 AT the annual meeting and prize distribution of the Black Horse Angling Club, Pershore, last week, there was a discussion on the poorness of sport throughout the season. The hon. secretary of the club (Mr James Bundy) expressed the opinion that the May and June floods had a considerable effect on the season as a great deal of spawn would be destroyed. Several members thought that pike which infested the river destroyed many fish. One large pike which had been landed had over 80 small fish in its stomach. Ultimately it was agreed that the secretary should write to the Severn Fishery Board and ask if the question of "trawling" with a line and spinner could not be re-considered.

50 Years Ago November 1, 1957 PRODUCTION at Willmotts Ltd, Evesham, had almost trebled since 1939 and now the firm was considering building a new factory, which would increased output and efficiency without adversely affecting employment, Mr W D Yates (chairman) told employees at the firm's staff dinner at Evesham on Friday. Mr Yates said it was 18 years since the firm staged a similar social function. "In that year, the output of the company totalled 380 gross spectacle cases and boxes a week. Since that time, the demand for our products has steadily risen to that today production has almost trebled. We average a total of 1,100 gross cases and boxes each week. The 140 personnel of 1939 has increased to approximately 260."
