100 Years Ago November 9, 1907 THE 14th annual exhibition of chrysanthemums and fruit in connection with the Pershore and District Horticultural Society took place in the National Schools on Thursday and Friday and proved a great success, thanks chiefly to the excellent work of the hon secretaries, Mr A W Smith and Mr H B Harrison, who had the assistance of an energetic committee, who spared no effort to make the show as attractive as it possibly could be. 50 years Ago November 9, 1957 A SUGGESTION that British Legion members should wear the simplest of the Haig poppies this Remembrance time was made by Evesham area Poppy Day organiser, Mr John Holding, at Friday's annual meeting of Evesham branch of the British Legion. "Give so much for your poppy that you will have to go without something that week," Mr. Holding asked, "but wear the simple poppy. The simple poppies are made by the men who can do nothing else, men who have to have machinery made specially to suit their disability. Wouldn't it be the greatest compliment for their work for Legion members to wear the poppies they have made? It is the most important poppy of the lot because it is giving employment and happiness to people who can do nothing else."
