100 Years Ago November 30, 1907 THE recently formed Evesham and District Citizens' Temperance League is entering upon its crusade with a great deal of enthusiasm, and all right-thinking people will wish it success in its endeavours to minmise the admitted evils of intemperance. To our mind, however, the organisers of the new League are to a great extent tempering their efforts by unnecessary restrictions. A citizens' temperance league ought to be open to all citizens, irrespective of politics or creed, who are interested in the promotion of temperance. Perhaps the new league is so open, but as far as we can gather it is confined to nonconformist teetotallers.
75 Years Ago November 26, 1932 AN extremely beautiful addition to the pleasant little church at Ashton-under-Hill was unveiled and dedicated on Saturday afternoon. It was a stained glass window at the eastern end of the North aisle, placed there, together with an inscribed stone tablet, by Miss A M Baldwyn as a memorial to her parents and her brothers and sisters. The attention of anyone entering the church at Ashton is immediately attracted to the number of tablets which it contains perpetuating the memory of the Baldwyns and rightly conveying the impression that the family was, for a long period of time, one of great importance in the neighbourhood.
50 Years Ago November 29, 1957 FOR the first time since the formation of the county branch of the Young Farmers' Clubs, the two senior officials, chairman and vice-chairman, have been appointed from the same club. Mr Steele, who was county vice-chairman last year, is a member of the well-known Netherton farming family. He has been a member of the branch since 1949 when it was known as the Fladbury YFC. The club changed its name three years ago. The county vice-chairman is Mr. Phillip Sheppey, who is chairman of the Elmley YFC for the second year in succession.
