100 years Ago January 11, 1908 THE frost which prevailed last week came to a very sudden termination on Sunday night, to the great annoyance of skaters and to the relief of those who prefer milder weather. On Friday morning, 12 degrees of frost were registered in a properly screened thermometer and on Saturday morning there were 16 degrees. On Saturday, a certain amount of fog prevailed and on Sunday the temperature was slightly higher, only four degrees of frost having been registered. The dampness of the atmosphere and the low temperature resulted in a magnificent hoar frost on Sunday, but the day was foggy and the beautiful spectacle could not be seen to best advantage. On Sunday night the thermometer began to rise and the barometer went down; at 11 o'clock there was only 10 degrees of frost and during the night the conditions changed very rapidly, some rain fell and by morning all the frost had disappeared.

75 years Ago January 14, 1933 "THERE is still a tremendous amount of influenza about, and doctors are exceedingly busy, but I think the epidemic has abated slightly since the frost came along." This statement was made to the Journal by an Evesham medical man, who added that although the disease was of a milder type than was the case in the last epidemic, the complications were equally serious and sufferers should take the greatest precautions. Although Evesham has been badly hit by the flu in common with the rest of the country, it is fortunate that up to date none of the big works or organisations has been thrown out of gear through the scourge.

30 years Ago January 12, 1978 PERSHORE Working Men's Club is back in business. The committee put up the towels and limited customers to soft drinks when they discovered the club's registration licence ran out last July. But at Pershore Magistrates' Court on Monday a series of occasional licenses was granted to the nearby Ship Inn to sell intoxicants at the club until it can get re-registered at next month's annual licensing sessions. It is thought that confusion over the registration arose after the club treasurer, Jack Thwaites, died last year.
