100 Years Ago January 25, 1908 THE neighbourhood of Evesham suffered with other districts from the thick and penetrating fog during the early part of the week, much to the discomfort of the inhabitants. The fogs were remarkable from the fact that they affected some districts; one could stand in one part of the street and be practically free from fog, while within a few yards it hung over the ground like a pall. A Worcester contemporary gives the following incident as conclusive evidence of the thickness of the fog: "So thick was the fog last night that all the cabmen in Worcester were walking their horses, some of them leading the animals by the head." To our mind it would have been much more incontrovertible testimony of the density of the atmosphere if the cabmen had been leading their horses by the tail.

75 Years Ago January 28, 1933 THE Pershore Male Voice Choir organised a highly successful concert in the Institute Hall on Thursday last week in aid of their funds. The Rev E I Harlick presided and there was a good attendance. The male voice choir sang a number of pieces under the conductorship of Mr William Sumner, and Mr Sumner's orchestra played selections. Others contributing to the programme were Miss Revers, Mr G H Bramford, Mr Street (songs), Mr Ted Hall and Mr Ward, Evesham (monologues). Mrs Bayliss (Evesham) and Mr Bramford acted as accompanists. On behalf of the Male Voice Choir, Mr F D Bott thanked the artistes for their support, the artistes for their services, and the Rev E I Harlick for presiding. Mr Harlick in reply, expressed his appreciation of a very talented performance, which he was sure the audience had thoroughly enjoyed.

30 Years Ago January 26, 1978 THE mayor of Evesham, Mr K D Sinclair, will be leading a deputation to London in February to meet the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Mr John Horan, to discuss plans for an Evesham by-pass. The deputation will include Mr Jack Beckley (chairman of Wychavon district council), Mr Pat Rust (chief executive) and Mr V E Jones (country surveyor). For the past 20 years Evesham has been planning for a by-pass to take the traffic away from the town centre. But it was only at a public meeting held shortly before Christmas last year that people realised the Ministry knew nothing about the plans for the by-pass. Mr Sinclair said: "It was totally bewildering. We could have gone on for another 20 years thinking that a by-pass was planned had it not been for that public meeting."
